Englishcombe Tithe Barn
Farms & Parks in Bath
An early 14thC cruck-framed tithe barn, built by the monks of Bath Abbey. A freak wind in January 1990 tore off 60% of the roof tiles and let light into the building, revealing great timber decay. English Heritage helped to restore both the timbers and the ashlar stone walls. It was finished in September 1994. Four new crucks were inserted; the beautiful filigree windows unblocked and the roof relined with straw. There are masons and many other markings on the walls.
