About Aylesbury
Aylesbury was founded in Saxon times and was a major market town at this time. It has been the county town since the reign of henry VIII. It is located at the bottom of the Chiltern Hills and at the heart of the Vale of Aylesbury.

The town has had a tumultuous history. By 1477, it was famous for its flour (the last mill was closed in the 1970s), then came the manufacture of needes in a village close to Aylesbury and by 1672, the poor were making lace. Let’s not forget Euclid Neale who was by the 18th century the best clock makers in the country and had opened his workshop in Aylesbury in 1764.
With its narrow Tudor streets and 17th century houses, the conservation area, being the most picturesque part of the town, is in the area of the church, Sy Mary which was built over the Saxon crypt. You can also find the County Museum and Art Gallery and the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery there.
Tales are present everywhere in Aylesbury, be Henry VIII, Roald Dahl who invented his children’s stories in the area and the key figure of John Hampdenm, local hero in the English Civil War.
But in addition to its market, Aylesbury also has modern shopping areas in the town centre. Friars Square and Hale Leys are both under cover and have a lot to offer with hight street retailers and independent shops. Easy walking distance from the Market Square are lots of streets packed with good quality goods.

Few miles from Aylesbury, are some attractions such as Waddesdon Manor, Bucks Goat Centre, Ascott, Claydon House, Hughenden Manor, Whipsnade Wild Animal Park and many more.
