Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire. It is a river side town, cut through by the river Great Ouse. It is conveniently located near London, Oxford and Cambridge.

St Paul’s is the main church in Bedford and one of the main features. The town is proud of its cultural and leisure facilities. The Cecil Higgins Art Gallery displays international collections of watercolours, prints, ceramics, glass and lace. Next to it, is the Bedford Museum where you can discover the local history through collections and displays.

There are lots of events throughout the year. The Bedford Regatta in May is the country’s largest one day river rowing regatta and attracts a lot of people There are also the Bedford by the Sea and the Bedford Kite Festival which takes place in June. August sees the Proms in the Park, a famous musical event.

Bedford is proud of being the birth place of some famous people. Amongst them, John Bunyan, the late Ronnie Barker, the archbishop Trevor Huddleston whilst Glenn Miller and his band lived in Bedford during World Word II.
