About Bolton
It seems Bolton goes back to the Bronze Age and was part of a large area owned by the Crown after 1066. The name Bolton come from Bolt and Tun. The town was granted a charter to hold a market in 1253. It is in 1974 that the Bolton Metropolitan Borough was formed, part of Greater manchester County.

There are plenty of places to shop from traditional markets (Bolton Market features an outdoor area with fruit and veg and the famous fish market, King Street with 92 stalls), to superb Victorian Market Hall. You will find pedestrian streets, ethnic shops and craft and antique galleries. The Last Drop Village offering glorious views of the West Pennine Morrs, is a collection of converted Georgian farm buildings with an 18th century façade offering craft shops and antiques. The Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park is one of the largest retail and leisure parks in the North West.
A wide variety of attractions are there to entertain you. Try the 19th century model industrial village with the famous “63 steps” onto the moors, or the Bank Top Brewery tour, perhaps the animal world with its collection of butterflies. The Islamic arts and cultural centre guided tour will inform you on its lovely décor in relation to the Islamic Faith. Learn about Bolton and its history as well as an aquarium in the Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive. Discover the lovely Parish Church and the Town Hall both spectacular Victorian architecture examples.

If sports tempt you, Bolton Wanderers Football Club offers tours with a visit to the player’s dressing room, the managers dug-out and the media interview room. There are also a numerous amount of golf clubs.
Bolton has a wide selection of places to eat, ranging from cafés and bars to restaurants offering international cuisine, suitable to every tastes and budgets.
