Canterbury Accommodation

About Canterbury

On the river Stour in Kent. Canterbury goes back to prehistoric time and its name comes from the Old English “Cantwarebyrig”, meaning “fortress of the men of kent”.
 Accommodation
Canterbury is probably most famous for both its Cathedral and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and is one of the most attractive areas of Kent. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Canterbury is an impressive city and attracts millions of visitors a year from all over the world. The city is very picturesque with cobbled lanes and streets and the city centre is closed to traffic during the day enabling visitors to access the attractions in safety. Enjoy the walking guided tour, taking place from April to October.

Canterbury is overlooked by the impressive Norman Cathedral, place of pilgrimage in the medieval period and where the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket, was murdered, it is still one of the most visited places in the country.

It has many fortifications, such as the medieval walls and the 14th Century West Gate and the Norman Castle. You can experience medieval life at the attraction 'The Canterbury Tales'.
 Accommodation
The town has a large collection of restaurants and bars suitable for every taste and budget and there is a wide selection of hotels, bed and breakfast and self catering accommodations.

The shopping facilities are great and you can choose from markets and specialist shops to large department stores.
