About Coventry

Coventry City in the West Midlands is the eighth largest city in England and the eleventh largest in the United Kingdom. It is believed to be the city further from the coast than any other British City.

Coventry is famous for its Cathedral. In 1940, the first cathedral was destroyed by the Luftwaffe and in 1956 the construction started of what was going to become the centre for an internationally renowned site for Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation where an annual Peace Month is held. The new cathedral was consecrated on 25 May 1962, in the presence of HM The Queen. The ruins remain, intermingled with the present and form one living Cathedral.

Coventry is also famous thanks to the Coventry motor companies and its two universities, the city centre-based Coventry University and the University of Warwick on the outskirts.

But we cannot forget to mention the famous legendary 11th century exploits of Lady Godiva, who, according to the legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry so she could gain a remission of the oppressive toll imposed by her husband on his tenants.
