Doncaster, located in South Yorkshire, is often referred as Donny. Its origins go back to Roman times.

With a tumultuous history, a disastrous fire in 1204, Doncaster is a mix of urban and rural where the modern town centre constrasts with the picturesque villages, towns and unspoilt countryside.

Doncaster boasts the biggest market in the North of the country. Located in the 19th century “Corn Exchange” building, it offers a wide selection of stalls both outside and under cover, supplying everything you could think of.

The Castle at nearby Conisbrough was built by the Normans. It is one of the finest medieval buildings and bears the oldest circular keep in England. Enjoy a visit at the Mansion House. One of the three Mansion Houses in Britain, it was built in the Palladian style and was designed by architect James Paine. If you are looking for a bit of sport, why not go the races?

Many streets in Doncaster bear the name of “gate”, derived from the old Danish word “gata” meaning street.
The appearance of Doncaster has changed over the last few years and it is proud of it accolades and awards for its lovely floral displays as part of Britain in Bloom and also its innovative “Quality Streets Initiative”.

Shops offer a wide variety of department stores to designer shops and with the Frenchgate Centre you can find quality shopping under one roof. With free car parking on Sundays, a lot of shops are open on that day.

With an extensive range of bars and restaurants, and good quality hotels, Doncaster is an ideal place for visit.
