Douglas started as a fishing village on the river where the rivers Doo and Glass merge to become one.

Douglas is nowadays the capital of the Isle of Man, also an internationally renowned finance centre, and an ideal place to visit.

Douglas has it all. Visit the Manx Museum located near the town centre which depicts the history and culture of the Isle of Man or the Villa Marina, a favourite venue for the performing arts, or enjoy a one and half hour tour of the Gaiety Theatre, a typical Victorian Opera House.

The best view of Douglas is from Douglas Head, reach it by road or by the steps and footpath from Battery Pier. Douglas Beach is one of the loveliest beaches in the island and often being used for kite or for motorcross. Summerhill Glen is on the edge of Douglas from Governors Bridge to Summerhill Road. It is one of the wooded Manx glens that run down to the sea from the river.

The shopping enthusiasts will be impressed by the number of independent shops selling various items from designer clothes to kippers.

The variety of places to eat ranges from high class hotel to diner on the harbourside to more traditional cafés.
