Lincoln was previously known as Lindon (meaning pool at the foot of the hill), then Lindum by the Romans
The grand 11th century Cathedral is one of Lincoln’s famous sites. It is the third largest in the country after St Paul’s and York Minster. Near the Cathedral, you can find the remains of the Medieval Palace of the Bishops of Lincoln.

Thanks to the Lincoln University building added recently, the amount of young people who come to live here give the city new blood and the shopping, entertainment and leisure facilities on offer are growing rapidly. Arts and culture are not far behind and the events and programmes taking place throughout the year are suitable for every taste.

Lincoln boasts a vast array of green spaces, amongst them the Arboretum, a Victorian park is located in the centre of the city, the Lawn Gardens and Sir Joseph Banks Tropical Conservatory and Hartsholme Country Park with its acre of open green space will satisfy the nature lovers.

The Brayford Waterfront is also an enjoyable venue for relaxing, looking at the sculptures or enjoy a boat trip that will take you to the west of the city.
