About Liskeard

Liskeard, originally called Liscarret, is one of the five stannary towns in the county of Cornwall (all tin discovered in Cornwall should be weighed at either Liskeard, Lostwithiel, Bodmin, Truro or Helston and stamped to be authenticated). It sits above the River Looe valley, close to the resorts of Looe and Polperro.

It is very accessible as it is on the main London to Penzance railway route and the A38 road. It is an ideal touring base for the beautiful Cornish coast and the Bodmin Moor.

The town is proud of its original Victorian shop frontage and interiors. Discover the Guild Hall, the Clock Tower. The Stuart House is home to Arts and offers beautiful gardens.

It has been an important market town and the mining industry played a major role in the development of the town.

You will be able to admire some murals throughout the town, particularly the one in Pigmeadow Lane depicting the history of Liskeard and its surroundings throughout its history. Enjoy the Westbourne Gardens, visit the Museum and the Ancien Pipe Well and St Martin’s Church, one of the largest in the county, or if you feel more enegertic the Lux Park Sports and Fitness Centre.
