About Liverpool
The borough of Liverpool was founded in 1207 but it is not before the 18th century that it started to grow with Britain’s industrialisation. It was in Liverpool that the first wet dock was built.

Liverpool is a city in Merseyside along the Mersey Estuary.
Liverpool’s inhabitants are called Liverpudlians and their nickname “Scousers” come from a local meal known as “scouse or stew.
King John’s was interested in Liverpool as a departure point for Ireland. Liverpool Castle, now Castle Street, stood for over 400 years.

Maritime trade links were between Liverpool and Indo-China and Liverpool Chinatown is the oldest in Europe and its giant Chinese Arch, brought piece by piece, is not to be missed. The Mersey Maritime Museum displays collection and exhibitions from Liverpool history.

Liverpool boasts two cathedrals. The impressive Anglican Cathedral is one of the largest in the world and has magnificent features. The Roman Catholic Cathedral opened in 1967 and bears modern windows.
One cannot mention Liverpool without its musical connection. It is the official Capital of Pop, and the place to visit for the Beatles.
