Northampton boasts a rich and varied history. It was one of the largest and richest town in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Northampton is nowadays a large market town and the county town of Northamptonshire. It is located 67 miles from London.
Northampton was well known as an important centre for shoemaking and other leather related businesses. This industry has now ceased but you can still discover the pattern of the small shoe factories in the back streets throughout the town.
It offers a lot of churches, religious houses and a university and the county has wonderful stately homes and castles.
There are a lot of attractions to entertain you. The Northampton Museum and Art Gallery boasts the largest collection of footwear in the world together with various arts such as paintings and the history of the town from the Stone Age to the present date. The Abington Museum will give you insight of the town’s military history and a fashion gallery. Althorp is home to the Spencer’s family and worlwide known.

We have owned the Roade House Hotel and Restaurant since October 1983. The building was originally a local village pub, The White Hart before it was converted into a restaurant. In 1997 we incorporated an adjoining cottage to create 10 guest bedrooms. Sue runs front of house and Chris is in charge of the kitchen.
