The Pennine are an area of wonderful scenery all year and can be got to from the A1 on the East or
the M6 to the West. The Pennies are a range of mountains running from the Scotish borders to Derbyshire
and can often be known as the 'Backbone of Britain'. The highest peak in the Pennines is Cross Fell.
The rocks of the Pennines are limestone and millstone, the land high moorland. The Pennine Way was opened
in 1965 and runs along the length of the range of mountains. If you enjoy outdoor life there are many walks
around the Pennines, and the actual Pennine Way can take several days to complete. The countryside is magnificent
and cyclists also have a cross Pennine route from Cumbria to Middlesborough.
